Founded in 1979, Pinakotheke Cultural is an organization that specializes in planning and producing exhibitions and books on the history of art in Brazil. In 1987, it opened Multiarte in Fortaleza, Pinakotheke’s branch in the Northeast, dedicated to presenting exhibitions on Brazilian art from the nineteenth and twentieth centuries.
In 1994, it opened its headquarters in Rio de Janeiro, designed by Carlos Pederneiras, with infrastructure for exhibitions, a storage facility for artworks, a library and offices. In 2002, Pinakotheke expanded to São Paulo, in a building designed by Carlos Bratke.
The quality of Pinakotheke’s projects has earned it awards from various institutions. In addition to publishing, Pinakotheke invests in the museum sector, promoting exhibitions, cataloguing and preserving collections. The organization has already provided consultancy for several institutions, such as Museu Nacional de Belas Artes and Centro Dragão do Mar de Arte e Cultura.
